The filmmaker and studio behind the documentary “Bully” won their battle to lower the movie’s rating yesterday, opening the door for a younger audience.

Director Lee Hirsch said that he edited out three of six F-bombs to appease the ratings group.

“We are getting so much interest to see the film, and this makes it much easier for schools to get behind it,” said Hirsch, who fought alongside the Weinstein Co., which distributed the film.

The documentary, which follows five kids and families who have been impacted by bullying, had a strong opening last week in New York and Los Angeles.

The drop to “PG-13” from “R” should widen its audience when it opens across the country April 13.

The initial decision had been based on the use of the six F-bombs in the movie. More than one is usually enough to garner any film an “R” rating.
